More about Project Contrast
Project Contrast is a non-profit organization created to help share the stories of, and give a voice to LGBTQ+ youth across the country. In addition to raising awareness and lowering the amount of suicides among LGBTQ+ youth in the U.S., Project Contrast aims to be the active soldiers on the battlefield and create a platform for LGBTQ+ youth to become advocates for each other and in their own communities. Their non-profit. This is their project.
Project Contrast was originally created in Maxwell’s home state of Utah where suicide is the leading cause of death for youth ages 10 to 17. Most of these suicides are taking place within the LGBTQ+ community, yet the state - and its strong religious culture - refuse to accept the truth. After two consecutive series in Utah, Maxwell visited five new states facing the same epidemic. Since January he has traveled to six new locations working with local LGBTQ+ resource centers, meeting and documenting queer youth, and allowing youth and their families to share their stories. With this work, Project Contrast has created communities and given struggling LGBTQ+ youth hope for their future.
